I was really enjoying being able to put Kelci's hair in ponytails with bows and almost being able to braid it. Then November 18th came along and that was all over.
I open the bathroom door knowing that Tracen and Kelci are doing something they didn't want mom to see, but figured it would amount to water, soap and nothing a few towels couldn't clean up. Instead, I see Kelci standing on the stool looking in the mirror with a huge smile on her face and Tracen standing behind her with a proud smile on his face and scissors in his hand. He looks up at me and proudly says, "Mom, I cut her hair."
I had put it in a side ponytail the day before and it was still somewhat in one when he decided to give her a makeover. I see the end of the ponytail cut off and am thinking this is going to be okay. I am also on the phone with Lance when I open the door-so he hears all this. I am still relatively calm and say, "No, no, no-give me the scissors." After getting the scissors and then taking the ponytail holder out-it seems that hair won't stop falling off her head. I then realize that he cut much more, but it wasn't noticable until I took the ponytail out. Then I freaked.
I started crying and screaming at him-don't even remember what I said, but he started crying and she started crying. All the while, Lance is trying to calm me down. Telling me all the right things-it will grow back, at least she is still little, lots of kids do it, and so on. Eventually I calmed down and so did Kelci.
I then went to find Tracen, who had run and hid in his room in shame. I felt so bad. Kelci really thought he was making her beautiful and he did too. I apologized and told him that he can only cut paper and only when Mommy, Daddy or Lance say it is okay. He said sorry and that he wouldn't cut hair again.
After trying to figure out what I could do to salvage Kelci's hair-we ended up just going to Great Clips and getting a little bob. He had cut clear to the skin in some places. This was the best way to salvage as much growth as possible. Here we are in February almost and today was the first day that I was able to pull her hair into a ponytail, if I pull the top into a clip or ponytail holder first. But, she did look cute with the bob, or as Lance put it, less like a rag-a-muffin.

First Christmas Together!
So I have been a bit behind in keeping up this blog. I think I have resolved to try and get back into it going forward.
We had our first Christmas together-all 7 of us! We had a great time! We had all the kids from Sunday the 19th-Christmas day pretty much. We did cookies, shopping, wrapping and decorating the stockings, and lots of Phineas and Ferb.
We had lots of visitors too-Gramma and Papa Loomis came for a visit, Garett and his girlfriend came for a few days, and then we had Annette's family out too. I cooked my very first turkey this year and I think I did okay.
Nate was able to come down and spend some time with the kids too. He came for Christmas Eve cookie making and dinner. With picky eaters and trying to start our own traditions, we let the kids pick their favorite foods for dinner. We had a concoction of cereal, mash potatoes, and fruit. i did make pork chops for the adults. It was fun.
That night the kids acted out the Nativity Story and wrote letters to Jesus. We opened pajamas and a movie, but the kids wanted to go to bed super early in hopes Christmas would come faster. We had to tell the girls that they couldn't get us up until 5AM. They were up for a couple hours at least before they woke us up.
Poor Lance slept on the floor in our room that night since we put Kelci in our room in hopes the girls would sleep in longer if she weren't there to wake them up, but obviously that didn't work. Kelci kept waking up and so we put her in bed with us, but then she kicks and whines so much that Lance ended up on the floor. He is such a good daddy though, he didn't complain a bit and was in good spirits when all the fun began.
Kids had a great time opening presents and we videoed the whole thing. Lance and I watched it soon after we were kidless for the next week. Sure miss having a house full of kiddos when they all leave.

Preston is getting glasses!
We found out from Preston's school that he needs glasses so I took him to the eye doctor Friday and picked them out. He looks adorable, but I feel bad that he needs them so young. Didn't really have a choice with his parents both having them, so I guess it was inevitable.
The boys wondered why people need glasses and I explained that some peoples eyes aren't as strong. They asked how they make their eyes strong and I said eating you vegetables. I thought this would be a great plug for that since Preston hates to eat anything good for him. It backfired and on the way to the eye doctor the boys proceeded to tell me all the people they knew who don't eat their vegetables-the list consisted of anyone they knew with glasses. OOPS!

Great Weekend!
This weekend was so nice! Lance and I had all the kids together and they did extremely well. Very little fighting, but mostly the kids just did so many nice things for eachother. Rylee got Preston a chair so all the kids could sit at the counter; the girls were so sweet with Kelci; the girls helped the boys play on the computer; they watched movies togther and just plain got along. We did take them to see Shreck-the latest one-and all had a good time. Think we will leave Kelci next time though, she was a little rough.
